Save the Date

On 28 May 2025, CLIMAS invites citizens, researchers, policymakers, and civil society in Bologna, Italy for our first Public Event.

The event will focus on deliberative democracy and climate adaptation. As CLIMAS approaches the final months of its journey, the Bologna Public Event offers a unique opportunity to explore how Climate Assemblies (CAs) across Europe are shaping key recommendations and solutions for more inclusive and resilient climate policy discussions.

CLIMAS supports local and regional democratic practices that empower communities to co-create solutions to climate challenges. Through citizen assemblies and participatory tools, CLIMAS developed a toolbox of methods to facilitate transparent, inclusive, and comprehensive decision-making on climate action.

Structure of the event

Keynote speeches and panel sessions

After opening remarks from our coordinator

Soon after keynotes, partners will showcase experiences, lessons learnt and the CLIMAS toolkit – directly from the voices of the organisers of Climate Assemblies in the Autonomous Region of Catalonia (Spain), the city of Riga (Latvia), and in the community of Edermünde (Germany). Italian deliberative democracy initiatives in Bologna, Florence and Trento will also join the panel and a Q&A session will involve participants in the room.

Roundtables session

Later in the evening, the CLIMAS partners will moderate a full programme of interactive roundtables, appointing experts and practictioners as facilitators to trigger the discussions. This interactive session is specifically designed to foster dialogue across disciplines and geographies.

    • #1 A value-based approach to identify relevant and impactful climate issues for citizen deliberation
    • #2 Co-Creating Climate Futures: Evaluating Methodologies for Citizen-Driven Scenario Building
    • #3 Shaping climate policy through citizen science
    • #4 Inclusive Climate Assemblies and Facilitation: Engaging Silent and Unheard Voices
  • Read more and dive into the CLIMAS Toolbox, featuring our latest video about digital and co-creative tools to increase inclusivity in climate deliberation.

With the support of graphic facilitation, real-time translation, and interactive formats, participants will have the chance to contribute their views, learn from others, and explore how these approaches could be applied in their own communities.

Why join the CLIMAS Bologna Public Event?

This event is not just about showcasing research. Our ambition is to connect people -and share practices- across Europe who are committed to the identification of more participatory, just, and climate-resilient adaptation measures.

By joining the CLIMAS Bologna Public Event, participants will:

  • Discover practical tools and methods for inclusive citizen engagement
  • Share your perspective and help shape the next steps for a climate-change resilient democracy
